SEO: Quality Over Impressions
The goal of this SEO project was not simply to increase search impressions or clicks. It was to improve the quality and relevance of the website’s organic visibility by targeting searches that aligned with the psychiatrist’s services and had greater potential to attract relevant prospective patients.
The Initial Situation
The website generated a substantial number of impressions in organic search results, but these figures did not necessarily reflect its ability to reach the right audience. A significant portion of its visibility came from informational articles with limited commercial value and little direct connection to the psychiatrist’s core services.
The website also contained approximately 400 articles, with overlapping topics and keyword targets across some pages. This created content overlap and diluted the focus of the website. Meanwhile, service pages were not effectively targeting commercial search terms, limiting their ability to reach people actively looking for psychiatric care and mental health services in London.
The main challenge was to shift the SEO strategy away from broad visibility and toward more relevant organic traffic aligned with the business’s actual services.
SEO Strategy and Implementation
1. Technical SEO and Website Structure Improvements
The project began with a review of the technical issues that could affect how search engines discovered, crawled, and indexed important pages.
This included addressing issues related to the robots.txt file and XML sitemap, improving mobile performance, and strengthening internal linking between key pages. Particular attention was given to improving the connections between relevant content and the website’s main service pages.
2. Content Audit and Cleanup
The existing content was reviewed to identify low-value articles, overlapping topics, and pages that were not contributing meaningfully to the website’s objectives.
Based on this review, unhelpful articles were removed, and the content strategy was refocused on topics more closely related to the psychiatrist’s services and the needs of the target audience.
The objective was to reduce content overlap, establish a clearer topical focus, and concentrate SEO efforts on pages and topics with greater potential to support the business.
3. Commercial Keyword Strategy
The keyword strategy was reassessed, with search intent playing a central role in selecting and assigning target keywords.
Instead of relying heavily on broad informational searches, the focus shifted toward commercial keywords related to the psychiatric services offered in London.
Keywords were mapped more strategically to relevant pages, helping clarify each page’s purpose, reduce overlap between competing pages, and improve opportunities for service pages to appear in searches made by people looking for professional mental health support.
4. Service Page Optimization
The service pages were refined to better align their content with commercial search intent and the needs of prospective patients.
This involved improving service descriptions, refining keyword targeting, and organizing page content to communicate the available services more clearly and address the questions and expectations of relevant visitors.
The focus was on making service pages more relevant to the searches they were intended to target, rather than simply increasing the amount of content on the website.
5. Developing Useful, Relevant Content
The objective was not simply to reduce the number of articles, but to improve the overall quality and purpose of the website’s content.
Greater emphasis was placed on useful content that addressed visitors’ needs, aligned with relevant search intent, and supported the main service pages through a more purposeful internal linking structure.
This helped establish a clearer relationship between informational content and the services offered, ensuring that content played a more meaningful role within the overall SEO strategy.
Results After 6 Months
Over the six-month period, the website achieved improvements in the quality and relevance of its organic search visibility. Average rankings for targeted keywords improved, while the organic click-through rate (CTR) increased by approximately 100% compared with the previous period.
The website also began gaining visibility for commercial keywords directly related to its services—search terms for which it had not previously competed effectively.
These results reflected a shift in the website’s SEO direction: moving beyond impressions generated by informational content toward stronger organic visibility for searches more closely aligned with the psychiatrist’s services and the needs of prospective patients.
